BOILER HANGERS
Pipe suspension and support systems for boiler steam lines, superheater tubes and high-temperature piping — designed to absorb thermal expansion while maintaining the required design load. Supplied in accordance with ASME B31.1, MSS-SP-58, GB/T 12777 and EN 13480, with complete project documentation.

Basics
What Are Boiler Hangers?
Boiler hangers are pipe suspension devices that support the weight of steam lines, superheater tubes and high-temperature piping while allowing controlled thermal movement between the cold and operating positions.
Why Hangers Matter in a Boiler System
High-temperature boiler piping expands significantly between shutdown and operating temperature — a 30 m steam line operating at 540 °C may grow by 250 mm or more. This thermal movement must be absorbed without transferring excessive forces to pressure vessels, nozzles or rotating equipment. Hangers apply the correct support load at each point along the piping route, allowing the line to move freely without sagging or lifting from its supports.
Incorrect hanger selection — for example, using a rigid support where a spring support is required — can overload nozzles and generate stress on pressure parts, which may lead to cracking over time. Correct hanger type selection and load setting are therefore critical parts of boiler piping engineering.

Product Range
Types and Selection
Select the hanger type according to thermal movement requirements, load criticality and the location of the pipe in the boiler system.
Spring Hangers
Coil-spring units that provide variable support according to pipe movement. They are the standard choice for most boiler piping locations where load variation within the travel range is acceptable.
- Load range: 50 – 50,000 lb (22 – 22,680 kg)
- Travel: 25 – 200 mm (1" – 8") standard
- Load variation: ±25% over the full travel range
- ASME B31.1 / MSS-SP-58 / GB/T 12777
Constant Support Hangers
Mechanism-based units that maintain a constant load over the full travel range. Specified for main steam piping, reheater piping and rotating-equipment connections where load variation must be minimized.
- Load range: 100 – 100,000 lb (45 – 45,360 kg)
- Travel: 50 – 300 mm (2" – 12") standard
- Load variation: maximum ±6% over the full travel range
- ASME B31.1 / MSS-SP-58 / EN 13480
Rigid Hangers and Supports
Fixed-length rod hangers, clevis assemblies and pipe clamps for locations without vertical thermal movement — cold runs, anchor points and lateral restraint positions.
- Load range: 25 – 25,000 lb (11 – 11,340 kg)
- Threaded rod adjustment of ±50 mm
- Pipe clamps, U-bolts and clevis types
- Carbon steel, alloy steel or SS 304/316L

Why Choose ORL Power
Hangers Supplied Together with Boiler Pressure Parts
Sourcing hangers from the same supplier that delivers superheaters, headers and steam drums allows one QC team to cover both the pressure boundary and the support system.
100% Load Tested
Every spring hanger and constant support unit is tested on calibrated equipment before delivery. A test report with actual load-versus-deflection data is provided for each unit.
Boiler Piping Knowledge
We supply the pressure parts these hangers support — superheaters, reheaters, headers and steam drums. We understand load points, nozzle sensitivity and thermal movement patterns from a boiler engineering perspective.
Complete Documentation Package
EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, load test reports, dimensional inspection records and installation setting sheets — all documents are traceable to the serial number of each unit.
Combined Shipment with Pressure Parts
Hangers can be packed and shipped in the same container as superheaters, headers and other pressure parts — one shipment, one customs declaration and lower freight cost for the complete boiler package.
Third-Party Inspection Support
We routinely coordinate with SGS, TÜV, BV and customer inspection teams. Hold points for material verification, load testing and final release can be defined in an agreed ITP before production starts.
Multi-Standard Capability
ASME B31.1, MSS-SP-58, GB/T 12777 and EN 13480 — we manufacture according to the standard specified in your project. You do not need separate suppliers for different design codes.

Industries Served
Who Requests Boiler Hangers
Every boiler with elevated steam lines, superheater tubes or high-temperature piping requires a hanger system to support pipe weight and absorb thermal movement.
Power Plants
Main steam, reheater and feedwater piping in CFB, coal-fired, biomass and gas-fired plants. Constant supports are specified for critical nozzle connections at turbine and steam drum level.
Sugar Mills
Process steam piping at 300–500 °C in bagasse-fired cogeneration boilers. Spring hangers are used for steam distribution headers and evaporator feed lines; rigid supports are used for anchor points.
Waste Heat Recovery
HRSG and waste heat boilers in steel, cement and chemical plants. Compact hanger arrangements around existing process equipment — spring hangers are used for the variable thermal movement profiles typical of waste heat systems.
Waste Incineration
MSW and WtE boiler piping at 300–500 °C. Stainless steel or coated alloy hangers are specified in zones exposed to flue gas. Constant supports are used for membrane wall suspension connections.
EPC Contractors
EPC and turnkey contractors sourcing the complete boiler island — pressure parts, steel structure and hanger systems — from one supplier to reduce procurement interfaces and simplify third-party inspection coverage.
O&M Replacement
Plant operators replacing failed or out-of-range hangers during scheduled outages. We remanufacture according to original load and travel specifications based on nameplate data or on-site measurements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Boiler Hanger FAQ
Common questions from EPC contractors and piping engineers requesting hanger systems for boiler projects.
How do I choose between a spring hanger and a constant support hanger?
The selection criterion is load variation sensitivity. The support force of a spring hanger changes as the pipe moves — typically about 25% of the hot load over the full travel range. This is acceptable for most economizer, convection tube and process steam piping locations where nozzle loads are not critical.
A constant support hanger is required when load variation cannot be tolerated — mainly at pressure vessel nozzle connections such as steam drums and superheater headers, turbine inlets and any location where pipe stress analysis shows that spring-generated variation exceeds the allowable nozzle load. Pipe stress analysis software such as Caesar II or ROHR2 will identify these locations. If you have a stress isometric or BOM, send it to us and we will confirm the hanger type selection for each support point.
What is the difference between hot load and cold load settings?
Hot load is the support force required when the pipe is at operating temperature and pressure — this is the design load from pipe stress analysis and is the load the hanger must deliver in service.
Cold load is the hanger setting at ambient temperature before hydrostatic testing and start-up. Because the pipe moves from the cold position to the hot position during start-up, the spring is preset to a position that delivers the correct hot load once the pipe reaches its operating position. We set each hanger to the cold-load position before delivery and provide a setting sheet confirming the cold indicator position. Installers lock the hanger travel during construction and release the lock before start-up.
What information is required to prepare a boiler hanger quotation?
The fastest way to quote is to provide a pipe hanger bill of materials (BOM) from the pipe stress engineer or boiler OEM. A typical BOM lists each support point with hanger type (spring / constant / rigid), hot load in kg or lb, travel range in mm, pipe operating temperature and applicable design standard.
If the BOM is not available yet, we can prepare a preliminary estimate based on boiler type and steam capacity, the approximate number and location of support points, operating temperature and pressure of the steam lines, and the applicable design code such as ASME B31.1, GB or EN.
What documentation do you provide with each hanger unit?
The standard documentation package for each unit includes the EN 10204 3.1 material test certificate for structural steel components, load test report with actual load-versus-deflection curve, dimensional inspection record, installation setting sheet showing cold indicator position and hot load, and packing list linked to hanger BOM tag numbers.
For projects with a formal QCP/ITP, we can define hold points and witness points for material verification, assembly inspection and load test acceptance. All documents are traceable to individual serial numbers for each unit.
Can you supply replacement hangers for an existing boiler?
Yes. For replacement units, we need the nameplate information of the existing hanger — usually stamped on the casing or attached tag — including hanger type designation, hot load, travel range and spring rate. If the nameplate is not readable, we can manufacture according to on-site measurements and pipe operating conditions. Replacement hangers are preset to the same cold setting as the original units, so no recalibration is required during the outage. We can also manufacture to match proprietary designs from other hanger manufacturers if dimensions and performance data are provided.
Can you supply hangers together with boiler pressure parts?
Yes. ORL Power supplies complete boiler pressure part packages — superheaters, reheaters, economizers, steam drums, headers and water walls — and can include the hanger system in the same order. All components can be shipped together in the same container, reducing freight cost and customs procedures. One QC team covers inspection of the complete package, and one document file covers all pressure parts and hangers for the project. This is the standard arrangement for EPC contractors requesting a complete boiler island from a single source.
